TextSnag Support

TextSnag for Mac. Need help? Email [email protected]. Include your macOS version, TextSnag version and the steps that led to the issue. Please remove private text from screenshots and never send passwords or API keys.

Get started

Open TextSnag from the menu bar. Use Help > Try Sample to try a built-in image without screen access. For your own input, start the free trial or unlock the Mac App Store edition in Help > Trial & Purchase.

Press Command-Shift-2 or choose Capture Text, select the text you need, then paste it into your destination app. Use Review to compare and correct important results.

Screen Recording permission

Screen capture needs permission in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording, called Screen & System Audio Recording on some macOS versions. Enable TextSnag and reopen it if macOS asks. TextSnag does not record audio. File and copied-image recognition do not need screen access.

Shortcut or recognition problems

If another app uses the capture shortcut, choose a different one in Settings > Shortcuts. If characters are incorrect, compare them in Review and check the recognition language in Settings > Capture. OCR can make mistakes, especially with small or blurry text.

Tables and compatibility

Core recognition requires macOS 14 or later. Table capture and its editable grid require macOS 26 or later. Compare important values with the source, and check the result after pasting into a spreadsheet because the destination may change leading zeros or long numbers.

Trial, unlock and Restore

The Mac App Store edition has a free 24-hour trial beginning when you acquire the free trial in the app. It does not automatically charge or renew. A separate one-time purchase unlocks TextSnag 1. To restore a purchase, use Help > Trial & Purchase > Restore with the Apple Account used to acquire it. Restore keeps the trial's original start time; it does not start another day.

Direct purchase and download are coming soon. Direct licenses and App Store purchases are separate purchase channels.

Optional AI

Choose a provider in Settings > Enhance. Cloud providers use your own API key, may retain the submitted content and may charge your account. Image re-reading is a separate option and asks for confirmation for each request. Select a smaller area if the image is too large. Apple Intelligence requires macOS 26 or later and a compatible Mac with Apple Intelligence enabled. Ollama must run on the local Mac.

History and sharing

History and thumbnails are off by default and can be controlled separately in Settings > History. After Copying actions can pass copied text to a configured Shortcut or URL. Review your settings before capturing sensitive information. Read the Privacy Policy for details.
